5-Step Hawaiian Pizza Puffs

Pizza PuffsI have a good friend – we’ll call her B.  B LOVES pizza.  Now, I’m sure you’re thinking: “Well of course, everyone loves pizza!  I love pizza too.”  Yes, yes, as do we all, but when I say love in this case, I mean would-eat-it-for-every-meal (of course she doesn’t, but if pizza were healthier, she might!).  I’m talking about will-go-great-distances-to-get-it kind of love.  At the end of a late night out, pizza is not just a common occurrence with B, but a crucial pit-stop.

So when it came to this recipe, I knew that B would have to be my ultimate taste tester.  After all, one can safely assume that an individual that LOVES pizza probably has pretty good standards, right?

B took one bite of these pizza puffs and responded immediately with a thumbs up and a fervent nod of her head.  Seal of approval from the pizza expert herself!

Even better – I’ve brought you pizza puffs in the form of a 5-step recipe.  Yep, you’re 5 simple steps away from noshing on these puffs for dinner tonight. 🙂

Step 1 – Preheat oven to 425 F, then start with your thawed puff pastry sheet.  On a flour-dusted surface, roll it out flat with a rolling pin (or an empty wine bottle will work too!).  Then cut into squares.

Step 2 – Dice your Canadian bacon and pineapple into small cubes.  Be sure to strain the pineapple of the excess juice and then toss both ingredients in a medium bowl with the pizza sauce.  Add the shredded mozzarella and mix well.

Step 3 – Divide the cheese-and-sauce mixture into equal parts, and place in the middle of each puff pastry square.PP Squares w Pizza Topping

Step 4 –  Fold each pizza puff by taking two opposite corners and blending together with your fingers.  Repeat with the remaining two corners.Folding

Step  5 – Brush each puff with the egg wash and pop those bad boys into the oven for 20 to 25 minutes.Egg wash - Oven

Step 6  – (ok, I lied, but this last step is the best one!)

5-Step Hawaiian Pizza Puffs

  • 1 puff pastry sheet (thawed)
  • 1/3 cup Canadian bacon (diced)
  • 1/4 cup small-diced pineapple (strained)
  • 3/4 cup pizza sauce (I like Muir Glen Organic)
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella
  • 1 egg

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.  Roll out thawed puff pastry on a floured surface, using a rolling pin (or empty wine bottle).  Cut into nine even squares.  Dice the Canadian bacon and pineapple into small cubes.  Strain pineapple of the excess juice and then toss both ingredients in a medium bowl with pizza sauce.  Add shredded mozzarella and mix well.

Divide the cheese-and-sauce mixture into equal parts, and place in the middle of each puff pastry square.  Fold each pizza puff by taking two opposite corners and blending together.  Repeat with the remaining two corners.  Brush each puff with the egg wash and bake for 20-25 minutes.

    • I don’t think puff pastry would work if it were gluten-free, but if I figure it out I’ll let you know!! 🙂 And you’re not going to like my answer to your 2nd question 😉
